Private nurse charged with assault of student on school bus

WASHINGTON — A 45-year-old private nurse is facing charges that she assaulted an adult student on a Prince George’s County school bus last month.

Investigators said that bus surveillance video captured Owoade Elusanni of Lanham assaulting the 19-year-old student outside C. Elizabeth Reig Regional School in Mitchellville.

Elusanni was hired by another student’s family and did not work for the school system.

The nurse is charged with second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, said John Erzen with the state’s attorney’s office.

A criminal summons has been issued for Elusanni, Erzen said.

“Certainly anytime you have video, we’re able to watch it and it becomes a part of the investigation. And it’s one of the pieces of evidence that we’re able to use when working with police to determine appropriate charges,” Erzen said.

The student did not suffer serious injuries, police said.

Police had previously described the student as having special needs.
