Man arrested for assaulting Henrico Co. deputies

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Henrico County authorities say they’ve arrested a man who struck a deputy in the parking lot of the courthouse parking lot fleeing from police.

Police say two deputies were escorting 26-year-old Rashaun Smith to his car so he could get his ID when he jumped in the driver’s seat, put the car in gear and drove away. As he fled police say he struck one of the deputies and endangered the other one, who was halfway in the car when Smith started driving away. The deputy who was struck was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Smith was detained and arrested shortly after and charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer.
