FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — Fairfax County police say the deaths of a man and a toddler whose bodies were found after a house fire were a murder-suicide.

The department said in a news release Tuesday that the bodies of 58-year-old Roy Eugene Rumsey, the apparent homeowner, and his daughter, 2-year-old Kyra Franchetti, were found after the July 27 fire.

Officers say Rumsey and Franchetti died from gunshots; Rumsey’s was self-inflicted. Their bodies were found in an upstairs bedroom.

Police say several gasoline cans were found throughout the house and it appears that fires were set in several places.

The incident remains under investigation.
