Crushed About Brexit? There’s an App for That

People in the United Kingdom voted on Friday to leave the European Union, which led to the resignation of Prime Minister David Cameron and the devaluation of the British pound, among other consequences — including broken hearts.

Though picking up the pieces after the Brexit vote will likely be complicated, one app is seeking to fix at least that last issue.

New dating and social app Remainder seeks to link up “the forgotten, Remain-voters of Britain, and their foreign allies,” according to its website.

“We think everyone’s entitled to their views and we know that there are many sensible, kind and intelligent Leave voters but this is for those heartbroken Remain voters to find a bit of comfort,” Remainder’s homepage reads.

It adds: “Voted to Remain, and looking for love? What better way to recover than hooking up with someone who shares your sense of existential dread?”

Though the app is still in development, interest has been high and the developers are planning social events in UK cities that voted to Remain, including London, Brighton, Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Young people in the United Kingdom voted strongly in favor of the U.K. remaining in the EU. However, the turnout rate for younger adults was lower than for older Britons.
