WASHINGTON — Starting July 1, bicyclists can cross the Thomas J. Hatem Bridge. But it’ll cost them as much as it does drivers.

The bridge, which crosses over the Susquehanna River between Havre de Grace in Harford County and Perryville in Cecil County, will be accessible to bicyclists from 9 a.m.  to 3.p.m. weekdays and from dawn until dusk on the weekends.

But there’s a catch: The $8 toll it costs those with two axles to cross also applies to those on two wheels.

They can pay with cash or an E-ZPass. The other consideration for those biking the bridge is that there is no designated bike lane.

The Maryland Transit Authority asks cyclists push a button before they cross that lights a sign warning drivers to share the road as bikes take the left lane.
