Another NYC transit leader hired by Metro

WASHINGTON — Metro is bringing in another former New York City transit leader to help turn the system around.

Starting in August, Joe Leader will be Metro’s new Chief Operating Officer overseeing rail, bus and paratransit. Metro also is adding oversight of Metro Transit Police and parking to Leader’s job.

He’s been a consultant for Metro recently, and previously was a vice president of New York City’s subway system and a safety investigations leader there.

Metro recently hired Pat Lavin from New York to be Metro’s new Chief Safety Officer.

Leader replaces former acting Metro General Manager Jack Requa as Metro’s COO. Requa will now be Metro’s Executive Managing Officer.

It seats up to eight, can be equipped with almost every luxury touch and competes with SUVs costing thousands (or tens of thousands) more.
