WASHINGTON — Prince George’s County plans to add shuttle buses from the Largo station to the Suitland Green Line stations on Monday.

The added buses are meant to help Maryland commuters in need of alternatives during the latest wave of unprecedented Metrorail service disruptions this week, part of a sweeping initiative to make the aging system safer.

County officials said in a news release that additional shuttle service will provide commuters with a southern option to access the Green Line similar to the New Carrolton-to-Greenbelt shuttle the county plans to run in the north.

County officials said the bus service would  be fare-free and express, with no other passenger stops other than the two Metro stations.

Ten buses will operate “load and go” style during peak hours (between 6 and 10 a.m. and 3 and 7 p.m.); five buses will run every 15 minutes during nonpeak hours (between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.).

County officials are warning peak-hour rail riders to add an extra one to two hours to their commutes. This phase of Metro repairs is expected to last until July 3, though the massive project is expected to extend throughout the year.

The bus service will be provided weekdays through Friday, July 1.
