BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore Police have charged a 14-year-old boy with vehicular manslaughter after a third-grader was hit in front of her school by a stolen car whose driver ran a red light.

Department spokesman T.J. Smith said at a news conference that officers arrested the youth at his home on Friday. Smith says he is charged as a juvenile.

Police said Thursday afternoon, a stolen car sped away from officers. Investigators say the car ran a red light, collided with another car, and hit a crossing guard and 9-year-old Amirah Kinlaw.

Police say the Jeep struck several parked cars before stopping. The driver fled on foot.

Amirah died at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Smith says the driver of the car that the Jeep hit was seriously hurt; the crossing guard had non-life-threatening injuries.
