Body of missing boater found south of Annapolis

WASHINGTON — The body of a missing boater was found Sunday morning in water south of Annapolis.

At around 10 a.m. Sunday, search crews discovered the body of 47-year-old Joseph Rossi, a resident of Edgewater, Maryland, in South River near Selby Bay.

Maryland Natural Resources police said Rossi had rented a boat Saturday in Edgewater, along with his wife and two kids.

Rossi was heading back to return the boat Saturday when his hat fell in the water and he jumped in to get it, police said. Rossi’s ex-wife, who didn’t know how to operate a boat, ended up driving away from the scene. The two had maintained an amicable relationship in the interest of their twins.

Rescue crews had to give up the search Saturday night because it was dark, but resumed the search Sunday morning.
