WASHINGTON — On Wednesday, a trial date was set for the three men accused of killing 23-year-old Matthew Shlonsky in Northwest D.C. last summer.

The wild August shooting — with Shlonsky caught in an apparent gunbattle between three men — rattled residents in the Shaw neighborhood.

Defendants Andre Dudley, Marcus King and Christopher Proctor face more than 60 charges in the shooting death of Shlonksy — a 2014 American University graduate who had just gotten out of a cab to attend a party for a friend when he was hit by a bullet and killed.

The three defendants have a trial date of Jan. 17, 2017, with a status hearing set for next month in D.C. Superior Court.

Shlonsky, who was described by friends as someone they knew would go far, was the second AU graduate to be killed in the District last summer. On July 4, Kevin Sutherland was stabbed to death inside a Metro train.
