What’s next for other officers in Freddie Gray case?

WASHINGTON — The acquittal of Baltimore Police Officer Edward Nero ends the second officer trial in connection with the death of Freddie Gray. The first trial of Officer William Porter resulted in a hung jury.

On June 6, Officer Caesar Goodson will go on trial. Goodson was behind the wheel of the police transport van in which Gray suffered what would end up being a fatal spinal cord injury back in April 2015. Goodson is charged with second-degree murder.

Goodson’s trial will be followed by the trial of Lt. Brian Rice who was one of the officer’s on bike patrol when Gray was spotted and arrested. He faces several charges, the most serious of which is involuntary manslaughter. Rice’s trial will begin on July 5.

Rice’s trial will be followed by that of Officer Garret Miller, which will begin on July 27.

Officer William Porter, whose first trial ended in a mistrial, will be retried on Sept. 6.

The final trial will be of Officer Alicia White, which is set to start on Oct. 13.

All the officers share the charges of assault, misconduct in office and reckless endangerment. Porter, White and Goodson are also charged with manslaughter.

Dalkowski, who pitched for the Baltimore Orioles’ minor leagues teams from 1957-1965, died April 19 at the age of 80. The Nuke LaLoosh character in the movie classic "Bull Durham" was loosely based on Dalkowski’s career.
