CSX train crashes into car in Gaithersburg

WASHINGTON — A CSX freight train carrying coal crashed into a car in Gaithersburg Sunday morning, sending one person to the hospital.

The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Oakmont Avenue and Railroad Street, just west of Shady Grove Road, according to Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer.

As of 11 a.m. Sunday, the railroad crossing was blocked as police continue to investigate the scene.

Piringer said that the driver of the car was taken to an area hospital and is expected to be OK.
