Police worried more children assaulted at Fairfax Co. preschool

WASHINGTON — Fairfax County police are concerned there could be more victims after a preschool teacher and a preschool assistant were charged with misdemeanor assault and battery of a 4-year-old.

Police are urging parents of children who attend the James L. & Juliette McNeil Preschool Academy to take a closer look at them.

Teacher Lisa Campbell, 38, and 40-year-old Cherie Evette Diggs, an assistant, worked at the school when the mother of the 4-year-old victim contacted the police after finding bruises on her daughter’s body on April 21. The bruises were believed to have come from earlier that day at school, according to police.

Fairfax County police reported that the school has fired them.

Diggs and Campbell turned themselves in at Mount Vernon District Station on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
