WASHINGTON — People in the District like a lot of the same TV shows everyone else does, though perhaps obviously D.C. residents show a bit of a weak spot for dramas about power, no matter where or when they’re set.

That’s the word from Comcast’s rankings for the most popular video-on-demand shows for its Xfinity service, both nationwide and city-by-city provided to Vulture.

HBO’s “Game of Thrones” topped D.C.’s list — no surprise there; it was the number one show nationwide and in all 16 cities in Comcast’s report. “Empire” and “Power” were second and third; they rank highly on the nationwide list as well.

But the long-departed “The Wire” ranks No. 4 for D.C. — it’s still a depiction of power wrangling and intrigue, though perhaps of a slightly different sort. And the No. 9 show on D.C.’s list is “Veep” — perhaps fittingly, since its portrayal of Washington’s power players is rather less flattering than that of the typical drama — some would say more realistic. Both shows make the top 10 in D.C. and nowhere else.
