Md. man arrested for DUI after striking Va. trooper’s cruiser

WASHINGTON — A man was arrested for driving under the influence after police say he struck a Virginia state trooper’s cruiser in Fairfax County.

Police say Trooper S.P. Shook was on a traffic stop shortly after 11:30 p.m. Friday on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 495 near Exit 173.

While conducting the traffic stop, a 2016 Dodge Charger ran off the road and struck the trooper’s cruiser.

Police say the cruiser had its lights activated at the time it was struck. Shook was seated inside his vehicle at the time it was struck and was not injured.

The driver of the Dodge Charger, 43-year-old Larry W. Menefee, of Baltimore, was not injured in the crash.

Police say he was arrested for DUI and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

The driver of the initial traffic stop was not injured.
