WASHINGTON — Amtrak is deploying extra police officers along the busy Northeast Corridor through Washington’s Union Station and elsewhere across the rail system following the bombings in Brussels Tuesday morning.

Amtrak says in a statement that its police department is working with law enforcement partners across the country to gather and share intelligence.

“Robust security measures are in place at stations, on trains and along the tracks,” Amtrak says.

Amtrak has “reissued guidance” to staff on active shooter incidents, and reminded all employees to look for and report any bags left unattended.

Metro Transit Police say they have increased the number of sweeps with police dogs today after the attacks on the subway and airport in Brussels that killed dozens and wounded many more.
