WASHINGTON – Natalie Cole, the singer whose hits included “This Will Be” and “Unforgettable,” a computer-aided duet with her late father, Nat “King” Cole, died Thursday. She was 65.

Her first hit single, “This Will Be,” won her a Grammy award for Best R&B Vocal Performance, Female in 1976, and the silky “I’ve Got Love On My Mind” earned her a nomination in the same category in 1978. “Unforgettable” won Record of the Year in 1992; the “Unforgettable … With Love” album, released the previous year, sold 14 million copies.

Publicist Maureen O’Connor says Cole died Thursday night, and had no details about how or where Cole died.

She also was nominated for several Emmy awards for the ensuing “Unforgettable, With Love: Natalie Cole Sings the Songs of Nat ‘King’ Cole” PBS special.

In her 2000 autobiography, “Angel On My Shoulder,” Cole revealed that she had battled with drug use for many years, including heroin and crack cocaine.

In 2009, she underwent a kidney transplant.
