Cyclist dead after collision in Montgomery County

WASHINGTON — A 19-year-old cyclist was killed Monday night in a collision with an SUV in Montgomery County, Maryland.

According to Montgomery County Police, crews were called to the intersection of Veirs Mill Road and Turkey Branch Parkway around 7:30 p.m. for a report of a collision.

A preliminary investigation found that the cyclist was crossing Veirs Mill Road from a median strip in the area of a crosswalk when the crash happened. An SUV was headed west on the road when it collided with the bicycle. Police say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The cyclist, identified as Frank Towers of Rockville, was taken to a hospital, where he died. The driver of the SUV was not hurt.
