Time running out for holiday shipping

WASHINGTON — With only a few more days until Christmas, last-minute shoppers are running out of time to ship packages and still arrive in time for Christmas morning.

Monday is the busiest delivery day of the year. For gift-givers who want those presents and cards to arrive by Christmas Eve, you’ve already missed the U.S. Postal Service deadline for first class mail.

But shipping by priority mail is still an option. Priority mail express packages shipped by Wednesday, Dec. 23 will be delivered by Christmas Day.

Wednesday is also the last day to ship all UPS packages by next day air.

But the very last option would be FedEx same-day delivery service, available in select cities including D.C., every day of the year — even Christmas. But be prepared to pay a lot more for the convenience.

Amazon same-day delivery will not be available on Christmas Day.

Some retailers are still offering free shipping and guaranteed delivery by Christmas Eve. Most Best Buy orders placed by Tuesday morning qualify.

L.L. Bean and Bloomingdale’s free shipping deadline is Tuesday too, as well as free two-day shipping for Amazon Prime members. But Monday is Target’s last day for free delivery guaranteed by Christmas Eve.

Because, as it turns out, the tune has a problematic past.
