WASHINGTON — One man has found a way to make sure area homeless get a little attention on Christmas morning.

“A couple years ago one of the homeless guys said to me, he hadn’t had a Christmas gift in five years. So we were able to give him a tent, sleeping bag and two heavy flannel lined shirts. It was pretty heartwarming,”said Jay Herriott, founder of  The 25th Project, a non-profit that helps the homeless in the Washington, D.C. area, particularly in Prince William County, Fairfax County and the District.

They will be drawing volunteers this Christmas morning  to the Burke Community Church in Burke, Va., to put together 400-meals and to deliver those meals to the homeless in D.C., Fairfax County, and Prince William County. He says last year they ended up delivering 455 meals.

He said people come to arrange the dinners, but they also come bearing gifts which are wrapped on site. He added that they are looking for tents and sleeping bags to  be wrapped and delivered to the homeless along with their Christmas meals.

They are also seeking turkeys, ham, mash or sweet potatoes, bread, pies and bottled water. Herriott is asking those who want to bring food or help with the Christmas preparations to email him at jay@t25p.org.
