WASHINGTON — A house fire in Montgomery County on Tuesday morning sent one person to the hospital and displaced one family. Fire crews were called to a house on Settlers Landing Way in North Potomac, Maryland, after smoke alarms alerted the family to a fire in the basement of their home.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer reports that the damages caused by the blaze add up to more than $500,000. He says the cause of the fire may be electrical.

The fire was put out and both people inside the house escaped. One adult has been taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and possible respiratory burns.
