WASHINGTON — An annual drive to provide toys on Christmas morning to kids who otherwise would not have any was in jeopardy until an early Christmas present was delivered.

It looked like Montgomery County’s Toys for Tots program would be a no-go this year, because there was no space to warehouse and sort the toys. Desperate pleas for donated warehouse space went out, including on Facebook, and in a story originally reported by NBC Washington.

But without any response, it looked like there would be no Toys for Tots program this year in the county. Last year, the program collected 60,000 toys.

Then a Father Christmas of sorts stepped in: Jonathan Neal, CEO of Metropolitan Moving and Storage, donated a space of between 5,000 and 6,000 square feet, which means the Toys for Tots program can be held.

Paul Gunther, who runs the Toys for Tots program, has set up a GoFundMe account to raise money to buy a permanent warehouse.
