‘Symphony of Lights’ takes a year-long intermission

WASHINGTON– A Howard County holiday tradition is taking a year off.

Howard County General Hospital announced that the annual Symphony of Lights will not happen this year because of construction at Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods in Columbia, Maryland.

The organizers say that this break will give them a chance to upgrade their bulbs, most of which are over 20 years old. Past Symphony of Lights attendees are encouraged to share their photos and memories on the Symphony of Lights Facebook page.

The event will return in 2016, “brighter and better than ever,” event organizers say. The plan is to replace the 250,000 old bulbs with environmentally-friendly LED lights over the next year.
