Man dies in one-car Silver Spring crash

WASHINGTON — A man died after a fiery one-car crash in Silver Spring just after midnight Wednesday.

The Montgomery County police say that Mohammed Shafiq Khan, 21, of Takoma Park, was driving south on Gist Avenue in Silver Spring when his car left the road and struck a tree near Ray Drive. The car, a 2012 Volkswagen Passat, then caught fire.

Khan was pronounced dead at the scene. The police say they don’t yet know why the car left the road or caught fire. They’re continuing to investigate; if you have any information, call them at 240-773-6620.
