WASHINGTON — The demand for new laser razor that would provide a smooth shave is clearly strong enough for people to put up crowdfunding money — what’s not clear is that the Skarp Laser Razor actually exists.

KickStarter has suspended the project after deciding it’s “in violation of our rule requiring working prototypes of physical products that are offered as rewards,” according to The Register.

Its designer claims the razor uses a laser beam instead of metal blades to remove hair.

The video from the project’s KickStarter page suggests there’s a prototype laser razor in existence, but the demonstration isn’t terribly convincing.

In its KickStarter page, the organizers say they can’t display a demonstration video proving the razor’s ability to shave closely because the special optical fiber hasn’t been purchased yet.

The project generated more than $4 million in pledges, quickly blowing past the organizer’s $160,000 goal.

While banned on KickStarter, the Skarp razor is now raising more funds on another crowdfunding site, Indiegogo.
