WASHINGTON — Smoke puffs that fogged the skies near Washington Monument on Sunday were caused by a trash fire, D.C. fire officials say.
As of 7:15 p.m., firefighters were still working to put out the fire at Ft. Totten transfer station. No one was injured, but a spokesman for the D.C. fire department says the fire is not yet under control.
The transfer station is in the 4900 block of Bates Street in Northeast.
