WASHINGTON — In the midst of NFL kickoff weekend and college football, you may have missed this hockey-related tidbit: Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is engaged. Ovechkin and girlfriend Nastya Shubskaya took to Instagram on Friday, both posting pictures announcing their engagement.

Ovechkin’s photo caption reads, “She said yes..))) <3 <3 <3.” In July of last year, Ovechkin and Russian tennis player Maria Kirilenko called off their planned wedding after getting engaged in December 2012. Wedding bells will also be ringing soon for another Capitals player. Last month, forward Brooks Laich and “Dancing With the Stars” champion Julianne Hough announced they are planning to get married.
