WASHINGTON — Police are investigating the death of an infant in Alexandria Tuesday.

At about 6 a.m. Tuesday, Alexandria police responded to the unit block of Bragg Street to help medics respond to an infant in medical distress call.

Emergency crews transported the male child, who police say was less than two months old, to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officials have not said what prompted the medical distress call.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of the death.
