Couple initiates the “weed bar” into wedding reception must-haves

WASHINGTON — Who needs balloons and doves released in the air when you have a weed bar to take your wedding guests higher?

According to Mashable, two Oregonian love birds took their matrimonial bliss to a whole new level when they incorporated a weed bar in a tent for their guests at their August wedding reception. Marijuana possession and use is fully legal in the state so they were able to light up in compliance with the law.

“We were shocked by how much people loved it,” John Elledge, a cannabis cultivator, who married Whitney Alexander on Aug. 8,  told local news outlet KGW in an interview. “I’m still getting a couple of texts a day from guests who enjoyed the weed tent.”

We’re not sure if all the relatives ventured into the tent, which included 13 varieties of the bud, but Elledge confirms one octogenarian was really digging it.

“Even an 81-year-old woman who hadn’t smoked weed since the ’60s came into the tent at our wedding,” said Elledge. “Though skeptical at first, she ended up loving it.”

If the buzz prevails, the Weed Tent would could really turn tradition on its head in the nearly $60 billion wedding industry. Though pot is only legal now in Oregon, Alaska, Colorado , Washington State and D.C., it might be interesting to see how the new ritual would rate on the TLC reality show Four Weddings, or better yet, with Emily Post.

Marijuana etiquette, anyone?
