Frederick police officer sentenced to probation for DUI case

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — A Frederick police officer who was charged with drunken driving after an accident in Boonsboro has been sentenced to probation.

The Frederick News-Post (http://bit.ly/1ItwUeZ ) reports Officer 1st Class Deborah Sue Kidwell appeared in Washington County District Court and was sentenced to probation before judgment. That means her guilty plea to DUI will be stricken from her record if she completes probation. She started her two-year unsupervised probation Thursday.

Kidwell was driving in Boonsboro when she hit a parked car that was unoccupied about 4 a.m. on June 7. After she was charged, her police powers were suspended, and she has been assigned to administrative duties.

Defense attorney, Ann Koshy, says Kidwell appeared in court to take full responsibility. Koshy says Kidwell is still highly regarded in the police department.
