D.C.’s new high-up space to practice downward dogs

WASHINGTON — Washington yogis will soon have a high-up space to practice their downward dogs.

East Side Yoga, a Capitol Hill studio that opened in March, will start holding evening classes on its roof deck starting Monday, Aug. 24. The new space, which is D.C.’s first rooftop yoga studio, accommodates 25 students and includes an herb, vegetable and flower garden.

East Side Yoga owner and instructor Alia Khan says the quiet outdoor environment has a “retreat-like effect” that’s meant to help students let go of daily stress.

Rooftop classes will be offered daily, Monday-Thursday at 7 p.m., with a special Sunset Flow class each Sunday at 6:30 p.m. and musically-themed Friday Yoga Happy Hour classes every other Friday. Visit East Side Yoga’s website for more information.

White Sox chairman Reinsdorf officiates wedding of former Rookie of Year Kittle during game

CHICAGO (AP) — As the White Sox were slugging their way to a 22-1 victory over the Royals on Friday night, former player Ron Kittle was getting married in a ballpark suite with Chicago chairman Jerry Reinsdorf officiating. Kittle tied the knot with his girlfriend, Barbara, in Reinsdorf’s suite during Chicago’s 10-run third inning. The White Sox went on to score their most runs since a 22-13 victory at Boston on May 31, 1970. “He’s so superstitious he might marry somebody today in the bottom of the third,” Kittle, the 1983 AL Rookie of the Year, said Saturday about Reinsdorf. Harold Baines and Greg Walker, Kittle’s teammates on the 1983 White Sox squad, and their spouses also attended the quick ceremony.
