Man charged in stabbing of Macy’s security guard

WASHINGTON — A D.C. man has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and theft after he allegedly stabbing a Macy’s security guard in downtown D.C. Tuesday afternoon.

Metropolitan Police Department detectives arrested 26-year-old D’Andre Britton of Southeast.

Police say Britton was trying to shoplift something from the Macy’s store at 12th and G streets in Northwest D.C. near the Metro Center station around 3:10 p.m. Tuesday. When a security guard tried to stop him, Britton stabbed the guard.

The suspect fled the scene after the stabbing and was taken into custody at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Metropolitan Police Department Spokesman Lt. Sean Conboy says.

The guard, whose name has not yet been released, is expected to be OK, Conboy adds.

The incident did not impact Metro service.
