SILVER SPRING, Md. — A 6-month old is recovering in the hospital after the boy was rescued from a hot car in Silver Spring Wednesday morning.

The baby’s father took a Red Line Metro train to work, leaving the baby behind in his car, which was parked at the Forest Glen Metro Station parking lot.

But after realizing what he’d done, the 31-year-old father called the baby’s grandparents and they called 911.

Metro’s Sherri Ly says the preliminary investigation shows the father parking about 7:30 a.m. and the baby had been in the hot car until he was rescued about 10:20 a.m.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue crews broke out the window on the 2015 Subaru to rescue the baby and rushed the child to a local hospital. Ly says, at last report, the baby was alert, but with an elevated temperature.

Meanwhile she says detectives are interviewing the father and that detectives have referred the case to Child Protective Services to determine if any charges should be filed. The father’s name has not been released.

Last week local officials highlighted the dangers of leaving children in hot cars and offered suggestions to help parents including putting their purse or briefcase next to their child’s car seat.
