Va. man dies following hit-and-run crash, suspect arrested

WASHINGTON — Police in Leesburg, Virginia say a 57-year-old man has died following a hit-and-run crash on Monday, and the suspect has been arrested.

Police say Fidel Antonio Cruz Villacorta was hit by a pickup truck along Plaza Street. The driver, later identified as 47-year-old Jose Pablo Hernandez Reyes, then left the scene.

A witness followed the suspect’s vehicle and was able to take a photo that helped investigators, police say.

Villacorta was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but passed away on Tuesday.

Police say Reyes turned himself in at Police Headquarters on Wednesday evening, and was charged with felony hit-and-run.
