Police: Missing Md. swimmers presumed dead

WASHINGTON — Two brothers last seen swimming off Cove Point beach Friday night have likely drowned, Calvert County Sheriff’s office said.

Capt. Todd M. Ireland said it was “presumed” that Daniel Jason Brown, 37, of Lusby, and his brother Douglas Howell Brown, 39, of Mechanicsville, died due to accidental drowning.

Ireland said the case would remain open until the brothers were found.

Police said 911 received the call at around 7:30 p.m. Friday. The brothers were swimming with a juvenile off Cove Point in Lusby, Maryland when they entered deep water and became tired from swimming against the tide.

Police said Daniel and Douglas Brown disappeared beneath the water, but the juvenile was able to make it back to shore, where he alerted family members and authorities.
