Local camp counselor charged with sex abuse

WASHINGTON — A counselor at “Holton-Arms Creative Summer” camp in Bethesda has been charged with sex abuse of a minor.

The 11-year-old victim told detectives that the counselor touched her inappropriately as he taught magic lessons at the camp.

Jose Luis Casumbal Valenzuela, who also goes by “Jolly” at the camp, has been arrested and charged with one county of third-degree sex offense and one count of sex abuse of a minor.

Casumbal Valenzuela, 43, has worked at the camp teaching magic classes since 2012.

The alleged abuse happened between June 30 and July 3.

Montgomery County Police encourage parents to talk with their kids and report any other instances of sexual abuse that may have occurred.
