1 dead, 8 hurt: boat passengers go overboard in local lake

WASHINGTON — One person is dead and eight others are injured after a boat got too close to the dam in Maryland’s Lake Linganore and the passengers went overboard.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening in Frederick County.

According to Maryland Natural Resources Police,  the victim, a 62-year-old man, later identified as Stephen Wade Hembree, 62, of New Market, Md., was recovered from the water. The others were taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital.

The victim will be taken to the medical examiner’s office in Baltimore for an autopsy.
