Silver Spring town house fire displaces six families

WASHINGTON — A Silver Spring town house fire has displaced several families Tuesday afternoon. A fire broke out in the 1700 block of East-West Highway at about 11:45 a.m. The fire extended to several condos through the attic, says Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesman Pete Piringer. East-West Highway in Silver Spring was closed in both directions between 16th Street and Sundale Drive because of the fire. The roads reopened after about an hour. Six families will be displaced because of the fire. There was water and smoke damage as a result of the fire. Seven fire fighters responded and there were no injuries, Piringer says.
