WASHINGTON — In an aggressive push for the FBI headquarters, Fairfax County released a transportation report that claims Springfield, Virginia, would be the most efficient location for FBI employees.

Springfield is one of three possible locations the federal government is analyzing. The other two are Landover and Greenbelt, both in Maryland.

The FBI is currently headquartered on Pennsylvania Avenue in the District.

“If we look at the metrics, the best location for a majority of the people who would be coming to the FBI headquarters is clearly Springfield,” says Fairfax County Supervisor Jeff McKay.

According to the county report, it would take the average FBI worker 28 minutes to drive to Springfield.  A drive to Landover would take 36 minutes, while commuters would spend 37 minutes driving to Greenbelt.

“They’re not spending as much time getting back and forth in their car,” says Sharon Bulova, chairman of the Fairfax County board of supervisors.

The report also claims Springfield would be the quickest option for those who use mass transit.

County officials compiled the data using area-growth forecasts through 2025.  They considered travel times from 20 different locations across the region in D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
