76-year-old woman fights robber off her husband with a cane

WASHINGTON — A 76-year-old woman fought back with her cane during a robbery Friday morning, and police were able to identify the suspect with the help of the distinctive wounds she inflicted, NBC 4 Washington reports.

The robbery took place about 11 a.m. in front of the Turkish Embassy near 23rd and Q streets in northwest D.C., when a man ran across the street to the woman and her 81-year-old husband and demanded money.

The husband said he didn’t have any so the suspect reached into the man’s back pocket and took his wallet.The two men got into a scuffle, and the suspect pushed the husband to the ground. The woman went to her husband’s defense, striking him with her cane.

The suspect got away, but police were able to identify 50-year-old Milton Hood from his cane wounds and he is now in police custody.
