NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A former school security assistant has been sentenced to probation for charges in Norfolk that she had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student.

A Norfolk circuit judge handed Patience Justine Perez a seven-month sentence in March 2014 but held off imposing the sentence on two counts of indecent liberties with a minor to allow Perez to continue therapy.

Media outlets report the judge ruled Friday the 25-year-old Perez, had met the court’s conditions and placed her on probation.

Perez, who was married at the time, was fired in March 2013 from Renaissance Academy in Virginia Beach.  According to reports at the time, Perez was fired from the alternative public middle/high school for the affair with the boy. She was accused of smoking marijuana with the teen, having numerous encounters with him in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, “sexting” with him over her cellphone, and also talking about killing her husband in Facebook exchanges.

She pleaded guilty last year in Virginia Beach to a separate count of taking indecent liberties with the student. The charges involved meeting the victim at his Virginia Beach home. Sentencing is set for May 18.
