Jesse Matthew charged with capital murder in Hannah Graham case

WASHINGTON — The death penalty is now an option for the man accused of kidnapping and killing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham. 

Jesse Matthew is now charged with capital murder.

Matthew had been charged with first-degree murder and abduction with intent to defile.

Graham disappeared in September after a night out in Charlottesville. Her body was found several weeks later in Albemarle County.

Matthew is also facing a trial next month on unrelated attempted murder and sexual assault charges in Fairfax County.
