Driver identified after deadly crash in Alexandria

WASHINGTON — Police have identified the driver who died after crashing into a building in Alexandria, Virginia, early Tuesday. Alexandria police say the crash occurred at about 3:40 a.m. on Van Dorn Street and shut down a short stretch of Van Dorn between Braddock Road and Kenmore Avenue. Police say a  newer model white Ford Mustang crashed into a building and the driver was found deceased inside the vehicle. Tuesday evening, police identified the driver as 46-year-old Anthony Freedman, of Fairfax County. Just after 8 a.m., police tweeted that Van Dorn would be closed for another six hours.

The crash remains under investigation. Police ask that anyone who witnessed the vehicle in the area early Tuesday morning contact them at 703-746-6873.
