1 dead after GW Parkway accident

WASHINGTON — One person has been declared dead in a one-car accident that sent a car through the stone retaining wall on the George Washington Parkway in Arlington Saturday morning.

The northbound Parkway between Route 123 and Spout Run Parkway remained closed at 9 a.m. following the crash, which occurred  around 4:30 a.m., according to U.S. Park Police.

The driver, who has not been identified, was traveling northbound near the scenic overlook when the car went through the wall and into the tree line along the Potomac River. The  victim was dead at the scene.
