MARIJUANA REFUND

DENVER (AP) — Colorado lawmakers are asking voters for a do-over on legal pot. Not the selling of pot but the taxing of legal pot. A ballot measure passed by voters in 2013 didn’t account for a quirk in state tax laws. If the pot taxation measure isn’t updated, nearly 60 million bucks will have to be refunded. Either way, Colorado pot shoppers will see a one-day pot tax holiday on Sept. 16. The no-tax day is another requirement triggered by the state constitution when new taxes exceed permitted limits.

TEMPLE-PROSTITUTION

PHOENIX (AP) — There was more than praying in a Phoenix temple. Authorities say the Phoenix Goddess Temple was a front for sex-for-pay. Prosecutors report Wayne Clayton has made a plea deal. Charges of maintaining a house of prostitution have been dropped. Clayton has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and has been sentenced to a year of probation. Backers of the temple claimed their operation was for sexual healing.

SCHOOL OF GEESE

EASTVALE, Calif. (AP) — There’s a cool couple on campus — and they’re all decked out in feathers. The campus quad of a Southern California high school is the home of a pair of Canada Geese. The birds have made their nest at Eleanor Roosevelt High in Eastvale and have returned every year for the last five years. That area of the quad is roped off and there’s even a bird guard on duty to make sure no one hassles the honkers. The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports the nesting birds are a symbol of spring for the campus.

CARTOON MUSEUM-MOVING

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The Cartoon Art Museum is trouble and it has nothing do with falling anvils. The San Francisco attraction needs to find a new home because of rising rent. Curator Andrew Farago says they’ll close their doors June 28. The collection will be put in storage until a new location for the Cartoon Art Museum can be found. The last exhibit will be on the “Stars Wars” graphic novels.

WWCUP-NIKE UNIFORMS

BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) — Where’s the red, white and blue? The U.S. Women’s World Cup team will be wearing black and white. Nike unveiled the team uniforms yesterday. Some critics say the uniforms look too much like Nike’s kits for New Zealand. But U.S. forward Alex Morgan loves the new look. She says it’s clean. The U.S. squad’s away uniforms include gradient blue jerseys with red touches.

NEW SPAM

HONOLULU (AP) — Spam isn’t just junk email. To an older generation, Spam is canned meat that fed American G-I’s. It’s still a big seller in Hawaii and now Hormel Foods is rewarding a top Spam market with its own flavor. Portuguese sausage-flavored Spam will be sold exclusively in Hawaii staring next month. It will make its debut at the May 2 Waikiki Spam Jam. It’s an annual Honolulu street festival devoted to the product.
