WASHINGTON — A Fairfax County police spokesman facing child pornography charges has resigned from the department.

Police Chief Edwin Roessler accepted the resignation from William “Bud” Walker a short time after Walker was released from jail after posting a $15,000 bond Friday. His resignation was effectively immediately, according to the department.

Walker most recently served in the public information office. He has worked for the department since 1999 and has also served as a school resource officer.

Walker was arrested Wednesday and faces charges of possession of child pornography and intent to distribute child pornography. Detectives were led to Walker through a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, police say.

He was relieved of duty April 9 and placed on paid, administrative leave, says department spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell.

On Wednesday, Roessler said that investigators had not found any evidence that any local children were victims of Walker’s.

Walker remains on supervised released. During a hearing Friday, a judge ordered that he not use computers and that he have no unsupervised contact with minors.
