Student dies suddenly after mysterious illness

WASHINGTON — Grief counselors are on hand at Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Virginia after a student died suddenly this week.

According to WUSA9, senior Madison Small was perfectly fine this past weekend. On Monday night, Small was rushed to the hospital with a mysterious illness and by early Tuesday she was dead.

The Loudoun County Health Department tells WUSA9 there is no evidence that whatever led to Small’s death poses any danger to the public. Still, there are no answers when it comes to a specific cause.

Hundreds gathered at the school Tuesday night to pay their respects.

“Life can be short, we found that out today,” said Small’s father Tim.

“She’s in a good place now. She’ll be looking down on this place forever,” he told the crowd.

The Virginia Medical Examiner’s office is investigating Small’s death.
