Pedestrian, 81, struck by car dies

WASHINGTON — An 81-year-old man who was struck by a car as he crossed the street in Montgomery County Tuesday morning has died.

The Montgomery County police say Ernest Mounds, of Silver Spring, was crossing Arcola Avenue at University Boulevard in the Silver Spring, Maryland area around 6:33 a.m.

He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, where he died.

The driver, Hector Cortes-Nestor, 44, of Silver Spring, stayed at the scene.
