NCAA Men’s Tournament overshadows Women’s Tournament

WASHINGTON — USA Today sports columnist Christine Brennan believes scheduling both the Men’s and Women’s NCAA Tournaments simultaneously does a disservice to the latter.

“The answer right now is we have no idea how great this tournament can be and how high it could soar,” she said on WTOP Thursday of the Women’s Tournament. “Because it is held down by the fact that it is going up against one of the great cultural things in our country.”

With the tournaments running concurrently, fewer people watch the women’s game’s showcase event.

“Today is the best day in women’s basketball in terms of talent, and skill, and coaching, until tomorrow,” Brennan said.

She suggested moving the women’s tournament to finish before the men’s tournament even begins, a move she says Maryland Women’s head coach Brenda Frese agrees with.
