61-year-old man seriously injured in Bowie blaze

WASHINGTON — A 61-year-old man was  seriously burned in a house fire in Bowie, Md., on Sunday morning.

The fire broke out on Jenkins Ridge Road near Johnstone Lane.

Prince George’s Fire Chief Mark Bashoor told WTOP.com that the victim was sleeping in the basement when the fire started, and that he suffered face and respiratory burns. Two other residents in the home were are able to escape, thanks to a working smoke alarm, officials say.

Investigators  believe combustible material may have been too close to a heater.
